Film: The Rambling House
Long before our history books and news bulletins, our stories were passed on in the spoken word. And way before ‘calling ahead’ was a thing, people dropped into each other’s houses and entertained each other with stories; some old, some new, some made up and some told in song. And the ‘rambling house’ – a way of life once common in rural Ireland – was about those who rambled in.
While lost for a while, the benefits and enjoyment of belonging to a community, and spending time together, are again being realized and explored.
On behalf of Christor, Birr Theatre and Arts Centre and myself, Hazel Greene, I’d like to thank the members of Birr Men Together for sharing their memories with us and to thank Creative Ireland for supporting us in capturing and celebrating this part of our social heritage.
