This drawing, pencil on paper, was created while researching our traditional heritage of the rambling house for the film of the same name – ‘The Rambling House’ – and features in it.
The film explores our cultural heritage of ‘the rambling house’, the old way of meeting up in each others houses at the end of the day and entertaining each other with news, stores and song. We looked at this social custom and the needs it satisfied and compared them with how those social needs are met today. We recreated a ‘rambling house’ event, recording the story telling, the music and memories provoked, and this footage was edited into a short film weaving stories of our old ways with our current ways, in a blend reflecting our oral history in the local accents of today. There’s a link to this film in the Archive section of this website.
